Rising (9th-12th)

Rising (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors) - The term "rising" indicates what grade level the student will be in during the next school year. For example, a current 9th grader (Freshmen) is called a Rising Sophomore or Rising 10th Grader for registration purposes.

2009 Registration Timeline

January 28th - Rising 9th grade parent night for CTE information.


February 25th – AP night

Month of March – Students will be receiving their course books and registration forms. These forms have places that require parent signatures and occasionally teacher initials.

3/2/09 -3/6/09 : Registration info distributed to Middle Schools

Week of 3/16 : Registration info distributed to rising 10th & 12th graders in English class

3/20/09 : Registration info distributed to rising 11th graders in Monthly Meeting

Week of 3/23 : Registration forms picked up from English classes.

March 4th, 2009CHHS registration night at Hanes Auditorium (details to follow)

March 23rd – Registration session for parents – counselors available for appointments

Month of April – Student registration forms are entered into our scheduling database by guidance counselors. It is not too late to turn in a form at this time!

Early/Mid May – Students will receive a course request verification. This is simply a chance for students and parents to review what courses have been requested. This IS NOT your schedule, nor is it a guarantee that you will receive these courses. Rather, it is an opportunity to make sure information was entered correctly and a convenient time to make a course request changes.

The anticipated date of finalized schedules is still to be determined.

Acronyms

CTE - Career Technical Education

ESL - English as a Second Language

GPA - Grade Point Average (See page 5 in the coursebook for computing your GPA)

Weighted Grades

Weighted grades – Honors and AP courses receive a weighted grade when computing a student’s GPA. See page 5 in the coursebook for more details.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

AP – Advanced Placement courses. These courses carry a weight of +2. Students take an AP exam at the end of the year that could potentially result in college credit.

Academies

Academies – A small learning community that focuses on quality instruction around a theme. (At CHHS, we have the Academy of Information Technology and the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.

Course Book

Course Book – District created catalog of all courses offered in CHCCS. Every course is listed with a course number that is used during the registration process. Some courses listed are not offered at CHHS.
